School Council
School Council 2026-2027
Who we are
We are the St. Mary’s School Council and we are the elected representatives of our classes. Our job is to be the voice of our classmates. We meet and make decisions on how the school could run things. For example, we make decisions for themed days throughout the year, like special meals events for school lunches, and what children should wear for Children in Need and other charity days. In previous years we have organised the school to run a local community fundraising event, for a local animal charity called ALFs.
Last year we worked with a local care home and helped to raise people's awareness of growing food. We worked with residents from the Westgate care home in Ware. We organised a class competition to see which class grew the tallest runner bean plant. We also organised a competition for each child to design a book to show a plant's journey from seed to plate.
We also take what our classmates say back into meetings, which we then discuss with Mrs Orton and members of the teachers' leadership team.
Art and Craft Afternoon at Westgate Care Home October 2026
On Thursday 15th October the School Council walked up to the Westgate Care Home to take part in an Art & Craft afternoon. The made craft pumpkins with the care home's residents. They were supportive and very helpful and demonstrated the school's values throughout the visit.
Westgate Grow Together Challenge: 'Party on a Plate!'
These are some of the entries for the Party on a Plate Competition. The children were challenged to design a mini book to show how a seed became food on a plate. We hope you like them.
