Religious Education

At St Mary’s we believe that Religious Education underpins and enhances the school’s distinctive Christian Character.

At St Mary's, we believe that Religious Education underpins and enhances the school's distinctive Christian Character. It is our intent for RE in our school curriculum to engage, inspire, challenge and encourage pupils. It will equip them with the knowledge and skills to answer challenging questions, explore different religious beliefs, values and traditions and develop a respectful understanding of our multi-cultural society.

Pupils will develop an understanding of how RE prepares them to become resilient and respectful adults.

Further under pinned by our core values of love, respect and friendship and building on our vision of living life to all its fullness (John 10:10), we aim for our RE curriculum to contribute to our children and staff’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Our curriculum will enable children to recognise and celebrate cultural diversity and respect the incredible world in which we live. Using our beautiful surroundings and through cross-curricular links, we can promote each child’s capacity for awe and wonder. We provide our children with opportunities to learn about and from religions and worldviews in local, national and global contexts, to challenge, explore and reflect on big questions related to faith.
