At St Mary’s Church of England Junior School we use the unique and progressive Jigsaw scheme of work underpinned by our strong Christian values of love, respect and friendship to help prepare our children for life. The scheme supports our children to really know and value who they truly are, understand how they relate to other people and flourish in this ever-changing world.
The Government’s PSHE education review of PSHE Education (March 2013) stated that the subject would remain non-statutory and that no new programmes of study would be published. The DfE specified as part of its National Curriculum guidance that ‘All schools should make provision for personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE), drawing on good practice’.
At St Mary's Church of England Junior School we teach PSHE and Citizenship through the Jigsaw approach. Jigsaw PSHE brings together Personal, Social, Health and Economic education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a lesson-a-week programme. Designed as a whole school approach, Jigsaw provides a comprehensive scheme of learning for Year 3 to Year 6. Jigsaw holds children at its heart and its cohesive vision helps children understand and value who they are and how they fit and contribute to the world.
