At St Mary’s, we believe that Religious Education (RE) underpins and enhances our school’s distinctive Christian character. Rooted in our core values of love, respect and friendship, our curriculum is inspired by our vision of "living life in all its fullness" (John 10:10). RE plays a vital role in the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of both children and staff.
Our RE curriculum is designed to engage, inspire and challenge pupils. It encourages them to explore different religious beliefs, values and traditions, and to develop a respectful understanding of our diverse, multi-cultural society.
RE at St Mary’s is more than learning about religion. It gives children the opportunity to ask big questions, challenge ideas and discuss their thoughts in a safe, open forum. We believe this helps them grow into resilient, reflective and respectful individuals.
Children are encouraged to recognise and celebrate cultural diversity, and to respect the incredible world around them. Using our beautiful surroundings and through cross-curricular links, we foster each child’s natural sense of awe and wonder. Pupils learn about religions and worldviews in local, national and global contexts, helping them explore what it means to live well together in today’s world.
