At St Mary’s, we aim to nurture a love of music in every child, offering them the opportunity to listen to, perform and appreciate a wide variety of musical styles. Through engaging with music, students not only develop their musical skills but also cultivate respect—for both the instruments they play and for each other as performers.
In music, children are encouraged to express creativity and collaboration, demonstrating the value of friendship as they work together to rehearse and perform for diverse audiences.
We offer a range of extracurricular music opportunities, including piano lessons to help children further develop their musical talents. In Year 3 and 4, pupils participate in whole-class ukulele tuition, where they learn together as a group. For those with a passion for singing, our school choir (open to Years 4-6) provides a fun and supportive environment for children to practice and perform in a variety of settings.
Through these opportunities, we aim to help our pupils grow in confidence, musicality, and teamwork, preparing them to appreciate and share the joy of music with others.
