  • WORLD BOOK DAY 2020

    Fri 06 Mar 2020 C MURPHY

World Book Day was a great success! We started the day with a launch assembly; Mrs Murphy talked to us about World Book Day and how every day at St Mary's is World Book Day, because we always celebrate reading and enjoy books.

All classes then chose a book to focus on for the day and shared what they had done in assembly on Friday.

Year 3, shared the book Black Dog by Levi Pinfold; Year 4T found out what a million looks like in the book How Big is a Million? While 4CD made charcoal drawings inspired by The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse. In year 5C, the children had to write letters persuading their chairs to come back after they left in disgust (in the style of The Day the Crayons Quit), while 5G imagined what the aliens might be saying in the picture book Mr Wuffles by David Wiesner. In year 6 the children read the book How to Live Forever and debated the pros and cons of living forever, before writing their own stories based on the book.

All in all we had a great book-filled day!
