Religious Education

It is our intent for Religious Education (RE) in our school curriculum to engage, inspire, challenge and encourage pupils. It will equip them with the knowledge and skills to answer challenging questions, explore different religious beliefs, values and traditions and develop a respectful understanding of our multi-cultural society.

Pupils will develop an understanding of how RE prepares them to become resilient and respectful adults.

Further under pinned by our core values of love, respect and friendship and building on our vision of living life to all its fullness (John 10:10), we aim for our RE curriculum to contribute to our children and staff’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Our curriculum will enable children to recognise and celebrate cultural diversity and respect the incredible world in which we live. Using our beautiful surroundings and through cross-curricular links, we can promote each child’s capacity for awe and wonder. We provide our children with opportunities to learn about and from religions and worldviews in local, national and global contexts, to challenge, explore and reflect on big questions related to faith.

Christianity Around the World Week

Wow! There really has been a celebration of not only Christianity around the world, but also of the vision and aims of everyone in school. Using art, design technology, internet research, computing skills, first hand experiences, poetry, reflection, questioning and deeper thinking the children have truly immersed themselves in our RE week. Through the fantastic activities the staff organised for the children they are able to explain our Christian values of love, respect and friendship and how they are reflected in school. They can discuss our school vision and how that impacts on their own lives. They can discuss how Christians can be found all over the world and identify some of the key aspects of some celebrations as well the deeper issues of how for some, being a Christian actually puts their lives in danger. We are all extremely proud of the way they conducted themselves when they visited the church and how thoughtful and reflective they have been. A huge thank you to Rev. Ysmena, Rev. David and the Thursday morning prayer group for welcoming us into St Mary’s church and sharing their knowledge and views.

Thank you too for the beads, ribbons, material, etc. that were sent in. These will be used to complete the final stage of a whole school art project which will be revealed over the next few weeks!

Please look at the  'Latest News' on the home page of the website for more photographs.

RE week - Monday 7th - Friday 11th October 2019

Over the course of the week the children will be taking part in a range of activities to explore our aim, values and Christianity as a worldwide religion. This will culminate in a showcase in the hall, on Friday 11th October, 3.30pm-4.30pm when everyone is welcome to come and see what the children have found out and produced over the week.
