HOMEWORK

In Year 3, home learning involves maths, spellings and reading.

Spelling will be set on a Wednesday and will be due in by the following Wednesday. The spellings set will be in line with our weekly spelling focus. This spelling practice will be set through Spelling Shed and we expect children to spend 5-10 minutes on their spellings each day.

Reading should be at least 10 minutes every day with an adult who can support. Your child will be given a school reading record to document their reading at home and within school. Children can read a book from the school library or a book they have at home, but this book needs to be with them in school so that they can continue during class reading times. The children will visit the school library every week where they can choose a book. They do not have to change their book every week.

We expect all children to practice their times tables daily as a small regular engagement is the key to retaining the learnt facts. The website available to do this is https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student . Children will be issued with a username and password. Children can also sing, chant and count while walking or being passengers in a car.

The link below takes you to the maths curriculum area, specifically times table practise.

A few parents have expressed an interest in having work books for their children to do as homework in years 3, 4 and 5. While we provide these for the year 6 children to prepare them for secondary school and the end of KS2 assessments, we do not have the budget to do so for the other years.

If you are still interested though and would like to purchase them yourselves, please find some examples below that we feel might be useful. Individual books cost between £2 and £3.75 or you can purchase a bundle for £7.25.

Your child will still be set their spelling, reading and times-tables practice as normal.

Any questions, please speak to your child’s teacher.
