Art and Design Statement of Intent

At St Mary’s C of E Junior School children flourish by following a broad and balanced curriculum. Pupils have the freedom to develop as artists through a broad spectrum of media and using the full breadth of their creativity. They are supported to explore life in all its fullness as they experiment with art, craft and design through a variety of mediums. We aim to equip pupils with the knowledge and skills to inspire, challenge and create their own works of art by exposing them to a diverse range of artists, themes and styles. As pupils progress, they will begin to think critically and develop a broader understanding of art and design. Through our core Christian values of love, respect and friendship children will learn how art and design has shaped our history and culture of the world we live in today.

Art and World Maths Day

Year 3 and 4 looked at Mondrian's artwork identifying and measuring squares and rectangles.

Year 5 and 6 looked at Kandinsky and all the mathematical elements to his unique, abstract artwork. They incorporated parallel and perpendicular lines, polygons, three types of triangles, concentric circles and many more.
